The eye sore is covered and a beautiful mid summer bloomer is left in its place.
The meter is and will continue to be visible for your local gas company to read

Problem: Soil in this flower bed is Lacking Essential Nutrients
The old soil absent of nutrients
When soil runs out of nutrients
Plants in this bed stopped blooming and were growing to slowly
I transplanted the existing shrubs elsewhere and reworked the soil
All plants thrive with nutrient rich soil, plus watering
With the plants removed I was able to bring in a potent soil mixture
The new soil was then rototilled and mixed together
The new bed mix was rototilled down a foot or more. This allows the new plants to root in easily and start the road to maturity
Darker soil indicates nutrients are present
New Soil Tilled In
New plants thriving in the nutrient rich soil
Butterfly Garden design explained
Blank Canvas
Design elements
A blank canvas. The bay window of the house was the focus in the design. Plants were placed to incorporate the window
Clients only request was to use plants that stay low and won't block the window. This limited plant choices but failed to derail the project
A half circle of day lilies to frame in the bay window
This leaves a gap in the middle for the center piece. In this case a Limestone Hydrangea fit the space perfectly. A blooming decorative small tree. Pruning will be required to maintain desired size
Two knockout Roses on the corner for full seasonal blooming
An Emperor Butterfly Bush to greets visitors by the front door with a vibrant purple color and an unforgettable fragrance
The back two shrubs are Nikko Blue Hydrangeas. They seem small and out of place. This is far from the case. They are intended provide lasting beauty for years to come
Nikko Blues are extremely unique. The blooms are blue in normal soil. You can however add nutrients to the soil and make them a dark purple
They are the right plant for the space. All horticulture elements considered, They grow 4 - 5 feet tall and 4 - 5 feet wide at maturity. This will not block the window. It will provide color and dark green foliage in the bottom corners of the window
the Nikkos are planted away from the house and left with plenty of room for growth and ultimately, maturity.
